Asha College of Special Education has been an instrument in preparing teachers working with children with intellectual disabilities since 2006. Special education means specially designed instruction to ensure a free and appropriate education for students regardless of the extent or type of their disability. Asha College of Special Education prepares special education teacher candidates to work with students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. It is our mission to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities and their families by developing and disseminating essential skills, knowledge, and values through research, teaching, and service. The preparation of teachers and leadership personnel includes adaptation of curriculum, accommodation to meet student needs, collaboration with schools and the community, assessment of student abilities, behavioral interventions, special education policy, and legal issues.

Bachelor of Education – Special Education (Mental Retardation/ Intellectual Disability) (B.Ed. Spl.Ed.(MR/ID)
The B.Ed.Spl.Ed. programme aims to develop Special Education teachers/Educators for children with disabilities for various settings (including Inclusive, Special, Open School and Home Based Education). The B.Ed. (Special Education) programme will prepare human resources to enable them to acquire knowledge and develop competencies and skills to impart education and training effectively to children with disability as well as all other children and this being teachers for all children.
The duration of the programme will be of two years with 2 semesters in each year.
The Eligibility for admission to the Programme requires: (a) Candidates with at least fifty percent marks either in the Bachelors Degree and/or in the Masters degree in Sciences/ Social Sciences/ Humanities, Bachelor’s in Engineering or Technology with specialization in Science and Mathematics with 55 % marks or any other qualification equivalent thereto. (b) The reservation and relaxation for SC/ST/OBC/PWD and other categories shall be as per the Goverment rules.
Diploma in Vocational Rehabilitation (Mental Retardation) (DVR-MR)
DVR-MR Pogramme aims to prepare the trained personnels to provide services in the area of vocational rehabilitation including adult independent skills in persons with intellectual disabilities functioning at various levels to lead them towards independent life as far as possible.
The duration of the course is one year.
Eligibibilty for admission to the course will be the successful completion of the ten plus two or equivalent examination in general education with atleast fifty percentage of marks.
